If turbulence and vortices arise in the non-measurement area of the pipeline (e.g., elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream), it will not impact the measurement.
However, steady-state vortices in the measurement area can compromise measurement stability and accuracy.
To address this, consider the following measures to stabilize flow distribution:
1.2. Pipeline-type Electromagnetic Flowmeter
2.1. Requirements for Straight Sections To minimize vortices and flow field distortions, adhere to specific requirements for the lengths of the straight pipe sections upstream and downstream of the flowmeter; otherwise, measurement accuracy will suffer. Consider using a straightener and avoid installation near control valves and partially open valves.
2.2. Requirements for Process Pipes The flowmeter has specific requirements for upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point to ensure measurement accuracy. a. The inner diameter of the upstream and downstream process pipes should match that of the sensor and meet the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the sensor's inner diameter, and D is the process pipe's inner diameter). b. The process pipe and sensor must be concentric, with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.
2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure the seamless maintenance of the flowmeter, it is highly recommended to install a bypass pipe. This is especially critical for systems handling heavily contaminated fluids and instances where the flowmeter must be cleaned without halting the fluid flow. a. Facilitates easy maintenance of the flowmeter. b. Essential for systems with heavily contaminated fluids. c. Allows for cleaning the flowmeter without stopping the fluid flow.
3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters
3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections To maximize the accuracy and efficiency of the flowmeter, specific lengths for the straight pipe sections are crucial. Inlet straight pipe should be ≥ 10×DN; Outlet straight pipe should be ≥ 5×DN.
3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points For the instrument to operate reliably and achieve high measurement accuracy, it is imperative that external parasitic potentials do not interfere with its operations. Thus, the sensor must be well-grounded, maintaining a grounding resistance of less than 10 ohms. (If the metal pipeline is already well-grounded, an additional grounding device is unnecessary.)
