Ensure the upstream straight pipe section is 5D and the downstream section is 3D, which guarantees the optimal performance and accuracy of the electromagnetic flowmeter.
The measurement principle of the electromagnetic flowmeter remains unaffected by the flow characteristics.
Turbulence and vortices generated in non-measurement areas of the pipeline (like elbows, tangential throttling, or a partially open shut-off valve upstream) do not impact the measurement.
However, steady-state vortices within the measurement area can compromise both stability and measurement accuracy.
To address this, the following measures can be implemented to stabilize the flow distribution:
1.2. Pipeline-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeter
2.1. Requirements for Straight Sections To reduce the effects of vortices and flow field distortions, specific lengths of upstream and downstream straight pipe sections are required; otherwise, measurement accuracy will be compromised. Installing a straightener is also advisable, and the flowmeter should not be placed near control valves or partially open valves.
2.2. Requirements for the Process Pipes The flowmeter requires specific conditions for the upstream and downstream process pipes at the installation point to maintain accuracy. a. The inner diameter of these pipes should match that of the sensor, adhering to the condition: 0.98DN ≤ D ≤ 1.05DN (where DN is the sensor's inner diameter, and D is the process pipe's inner diameter). b. The process pipe and sensor must be concentric with an axial deviation not exceeding 0.05DN.
2.3. Requirements for Bypass Pipes To ensure seamless maintenance of the flowmeter, it is highly recommended to install a bypass pipe. This is especially crucial for handling heavily contaminated fluids and scenarios where cleaning the flowmeter without halting the fluid flow is necessary. a. To facilitate the uninterrupted maintenance of the flowmeter. b. Essential for handling heavily contaminated fluids. c. Ensures fluid flow is maintained during flowmeter cleaning.
3. Installation Requirements for Insertion-Type Electromagnetic Flowmeters
3.1. Requirements for Straight Pipe Sections Inlet and outlet straight pipe sections are critical: The inlet section should be at least ≥ 10×DN, and the outlet section should be at least ≥ 5×DN to ensure optimal performance.
3.2. Requirements for Grounding Points To guarantee the reliable operation of the instrument and enhance measurement accuracy, it is imperative that the sensor is not influenced by external parasitic potentials. Thus, the sensor must be well-grounded with a grounding resistance of less than 10. (If the metal pipeline is adequately grounded, a separate grounding device is not necessary.)
3.3. Requirements for Installation Position Installation position should be strictly in accordance with the diagram provided to ensure accuracy and reliability.
